Taiwan’s Strongest Earthquake In 25 Years Has Killed At Least 9 People
Taiwan’s strongest earthquake in 25 years has killed at least 9 people. The magnitude 7.4-earthquake injured more than 900 people. 130 people are still trapped in the rubble, and many roads and buildings are damaged. This earthquake occurred on the island’s east coast.
The earthquake hit 11 miles south of the city of Hualien. It was followed by 29 aftershocks greater than a magnitude of 4.0. More than 91,000 households were without electricity, according to Taiwan’s Central Emergency Command Center. Taiwan’s national fire agency said that 71 people are trapped in two mines in Hualien.
The Biden administration is monitoring the situation and is prepared to offer assistance. This was the strongest earthquake in Taiwan since the 1999 one in Nantou County. That earthquake killed 2,264 people. We pray that the death toll in this earthquake doesn’t get near that.
