President Trump endorses Netanyahu for reelection in Israel

President Trump on Sunday posted a lengthy endorsement of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, tamping down speculation about whether he would publicly support Mr. Netanyahu’s bid for another term just nine days before the election.
Trump said in a Truth Social endorsement that Mr. Netanyahu “has been a Great Warrior Prime Minister,” and “even greater Partner for Peace,” in battling Iran. The US and Israel jointly attacked Iran in February. The prolonged war has led to skyrocketing prices for gasoline and other goods that transit the Strait of Hormuz.
President Trump posted that the Iranians have been militarily and financially destroyed, “and unless they change their ways, rapidly, we will soon finish the job.” In his endorsement, the President suggested the US would not continue military operations in Iran if Mr. Netanyahu loses.
“If Israel has the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so,” Trump said. Netanyahu thanked the president for his endorsement in a responding social media post.
Thank you, President Trump, for the tremendous support and the joint work. Together we will complete the mission!” Netanyahu posted on X. A recent poll showed Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashar Party has opened a significant lead over Netanyahu’s Likud Party. The poll only sampled 500 people, however. Other polling shows the Likud Party tied with various opposing parties. The election will be held on October 27th.
Trump and Netanyahu have had a good working relationship over the years, and the US has generally backed Israel in their war with Hamas, even as Israel’s standing in the US has gone down.
