Sergiño Dest Has Injured His Knee And Is A Doubt For The Copa America
Sergiño Dest has injured his knee and is a doubt for the Copa America. He suffered this injury in training with his club PSV Eindhoven. Dest is on loan at PSV from Barcelona and has helped them move to the top of the Eredivisie. With four games to play, PSV are nine points clear of Feyenoord and set to win the league title.
Dest, however, is unlikely to play for them again this season. A PSV statement described his injury as “serious.” The statement said that the extent of Dest’s condition is still being investigated. They expect Dest to be out for a lengthy period.
Dest has made 37 appearances in his time at PSV. He scored 2 goals and had 7 assists for PSV this season. This is a major blow to the US Men’s National team, as Dest is usually a starter for them. If Dest is out for a “long period of time” as PSV have said, it does not bode well for the Copa America, which is in 2 months.
The 2024 Copa America will take place in the US, just as the 2016 tournament did. With a US side arguably filled with more talent than ever before, many American fans are hoping the US makes a run. It is definitely possible, but it will be harder if Dest isn’t able to play.
The US still has a lot of work to do before it can be a serious contender to win the World Cup, but has definitely been improving. Sergiño Dest has been part of the new improving generation of American players. It is important for the US Men’s National Team to continue to improve to keep the momentum of soccer in this country rolling.
Sergiño Dest has injured his knee and is a doubt for the Copa America. While we rule nothing out, the US Men’s National Team should prepare for the possibility of being without Sergiño Dest this summer.
