Champions League: Bayern Munich Draws With Real Madrid
Bayern Munich drew Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal fixture, with goals from Leroy Sane and Harry Kane for Bayern, and a brace from Vinicius Jr for Madrid. Real Madrid took the lead in the first half off of a goal from Vinicius Jr, who took his goal well from a gorgeous through ball by Toni Kroos.
In the second half, Leroy Sane scored a near post screamer, and Harry Kane converted a penalty kick that Jamal Musiala drew. Vinicius scored his second goal of the match off a penalty kick that his fellow Brazilian Rodrygo drew.
Bayern Munich was playing at home today. Their fans all wore red, and the stadium was dominated by Bayern Munich supporters. In the beginning, this seemed to give Bayern energy, and they used that energy to take the front foot. Leroy Sane had a chance in the first minute of the match, but could not score.
As the match went on, Real Madrid settled in. Their goal through Vinicius was against the run of play, and it looked like we were in for a typical Real Madrid Champions League night. But early in the second half, Bayern responded. In a period of 5 minutes, Leroy Sane’s screamer and Harry Kane’s penalty put them in front.
Real Madrid won a penalty of their own after Rodrygo was bundled over by South Korean Kim Min-Jae in the box. Vinicius cooly converted. The advantage now is with Real Madrid, as they will host the second leg of this semifinal.
The second leg will be played next Wednesday at the Santiago Bernebeau.
