Biden trails Trump by 8 points in Georgia: Poll
President Trump leads President Biden by 8 points in the battleground state of Georgia, according to a new poll.
The poll conducted by The Atlanta Journal Constitution shows the former President in good shape in Georgia, leading 45% to Biden’s 37%, with less than 11 months to go until the election. The poll surveyed 1,007 registered voters also included options for 3rd party candidates, non voters, and people who simply don’t know. It’s the latest poll showing Trump in great shape in the Peach State, with Real Clear Polling showing him up 6.6 points in an average of 5 polls dating back to November.
The AJC poll conducted back in December showed both candidates in a dead heat, with Trump leading 45%-44%, within the margin of error. Georgia is bound to be one of the more contentious states in 2024, with it’s 16 electoral college votes proving crucial for both campaigns.
Biden won the state in 2020 by 0.23%, but his lack of enthusiasm among the electorate that won him the state, many of them African Americans, will prove tough for him to repeat a similar performance in 2024. On the other hand, Trump may have his own issues brewing in the state, with him facing RICO charges in Fulton County. But the case may already be tainted, as allegations surfaced this week that District Attorney, Fani Willis may have hired her romantic partner to help prosecute the case, with him billing her office hundreds of thousands of dollars. This is includes a day where he billed 24 hours worked on a Friday for $6,000 dollars. If corroborated, Fani Willis and Nathan Wade could be charged with fraud, a felony in the state of Georgia.
Biden will seek to recreate a similar strategy in 2024 as he did in 2020, with high turnout driven by heavy vote by mail in Fulton County and other urban areas. Trump will seek to capitalize on the lack of enthusiasm for an incumbent that is currently riding a 33% approval rating, a terribly low number for a candidate seeking reelection.
The 2024 General Election is scheduled for November 5th.
