Gavin Newsom takes large lead in latest 2028 Democratic primary poll

California Governor Gavin Newsom took a massive lead in the latest 2028 Democratic Primary poll. The Atlas Intel poll, which was conducted from September 12-September 16 had Newsom at 37%, with Kamala Harris at 21%, Pete Buttigieg at 12%, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at 11%.

This is the latest in a string of polls that show the momentum seems to be with the California Governor. A late August Yahoo News poll also showed Newsom in front, with 21% support, and an Emerson poll had Newsom leading, with 25% of Democrats supporting him.

This latest poll sees Newsom increase his support and his lead by a considerable margin. Many have connected this surge from Newsom to his adversarial stance against President Trump.

Democrats have been feeling despondent not just from their 2024 election defeat, but from the fact that Republicans seem to be winning over the country on the issues, and increasing their voter registration while doing so.

Many on the left are also extremely angry with many of the actions President Trump is taking, and are looking for anybody to stand as a representative for them in opposition to the President.

For now, they seem to have found it in Gavin Newsom. But it should be noted that we are over 3 years away from the 2028 election, and over 2 years away from the first votes taking place in the 2028 Democratic Primaries.

A million things could happen in the next 6 months that could radically change the equation, much less in the next few years. And many candidates who were polling ahead a couple years before the voting started were nowhere to be seen when the parties were coronating their nominees.

Gavin Newsom is far from a sure thing to be the 2028 Democratic nominee, but at least for now, he is the most likely person to represent the party in 2028.
