Biden Will Be Leaving Trump With Billions Of Dollars For Ukraine Weapons
The Biden administration doesn’t have enough time left to use the billions of dollars lawmakers have authorized to arm Ukraine, according to US and Congressional officials.
This leaves the decision on what to do with the remaining money in President-elect Donald Trump’s hands. The administration still has more than $6.5 billion left in what is known as drawdown authority.
Drawdown authority allows the defense department to transfer weapons and equipment to Ukraine from its own stocks. This comes right after the Biden administration allowed Ukraine to use US missiles in Russia.
While Trump, and especially his VP, JD Vance, have long talked about bringing the Russia-Ukraine war to a close, Donald Trump will not be capitulating to Russian demands.
It is likely that there will be a deal to end the war, as there eventually would be had Harris won the 2024 election. But the deal would stipulate that should Russia renege, the Trump administration would supply Ukraine with more arms than the Biden administration has been over the last 3 years.
With that being said, it will be interesting to see what the incoming Trump administration does with the billions of dollars for weapons that Ukraine could use. It is likely that Trump will use this as a bargaining tool; if Russia does not agree to an acceptable deal for Ukraine, Trump will use that money and more for Ukraine.
While many have been panicking, Donald Trump is not going to allow Ukraine to capitulate. The leftover money will not be thrown out; it will likely be used to bargain for a better deal for Ukraine.
