Attorney General Merrick Garland Has Announced Biden DOJ Working To End Voter ID Laws

WASHINGTON D.C. – Attorney General Merrick Garland has announced that the Biden DOJ is working to end voter ID laws. Since the 2020 election, states including Georgia and Texas have enacted voter ID laws. The Democratic Party has long claimed that voter ID laws are racist in orientation.

There has been a long running battle between Democrats and Republicans to define this issue. Republicans emphasize fair and secure voting Democrats emphasize making voting access easier. As Joe Biden’s approval ratings have fallen, Democrats have been increasing their claims of the supposed danger that Donald Trump poses.

Attorney General Garland couches his push against voter ID laws in the language of making voting more accessible. While Republicans and Democrats respectively are pretty set in their opinions on the issue, it remains to be seen how independents view the issue.

It is likely that the median American voter is moderate on the issue. Make voting accessible for all. But make sure that elections are secure and we have a system of checks. Obviously, both Republicans and Democrats would like to push the needle further in their respective favor.

Both parties take kernels of truth and try to extrapolate them to their advantage. Democrats use the fact that putting obstacles to voting can keep people from being able to make their voice heard. Republicans point to the fact that IDs are required for a number of things which Democrats never object to.

IDs are required to drink alcohol, drive a car, or get on a plane. It seems reasonable for an ID to be required to decide who will lead and represent the United States.
