President Trump is polling higher at this point in his second term than Bush and Obama were

President Trump’s current approval ratings sit at 45.9%. While these are not outstanding numbers, they are better than one might think. Look no further than how this compares to the two most recent two term Presidents.

This point in George W Bush’s second term was September 13, 2005. And on that date, George W Bush’s approval rating was 42.7%. Barack Obama, a hero of the left, whom they claim was a widely popular and successful President, was at this point in his second term on September 13, 2013. At that time, his approval rating was 43.5%.

That means that President Donald Trump’s approval rating at this point is over 2% higher than Obama’s was at the exact same point in his second term. This is despite never ending, and often false, negative coverage of Trump, and never ending positive coverage of Obama.

Of course, if you look at where Bush’s, Obama’s and Trump’s approval ratings were at different points of the first year of their second term, at certain times each of the 3 men were at higher and lower points.

This isn’t to say that President Trump is widely more popular than Presidents Obama and Bush were. It is to say that for all the claims of Trump’s historical unpopularity, when you actually look at the data, it doesn’t support the claim.

It could be argued that Trump’s average approval rating is lower, but that is more a function of Americans being further entrenched in either liking or disliking Trump. And if media were balanced in its coverage of Trump compared to Obama, who knows what the numbers would look like.

We are still at the beginning of Trump’s second term, which could go positively or negatively. Any outcome, from clear success, to horrific failure, to something in between, could be the fate of Donald Trump’s second term. But for now, he is in decent, stable territory.
