Women’s World Cup Spy Saga: Australian Newspaper Takes Pictures Of England Training Session
An Australian newspaper printed pictures of a private England training session taken from a helicopter. This has happened on the eve of the two nations’ Women’s World Cup semifinal clash. The host Australians are trying to continue in their fairytale run to the final. The English are trying to add a World Cup to their European title, won last year on English soil.
Australia’s Daily Telegraph are the newspaper in question. Says the newspaper: “If England’s Lionesses thought they would happily fly into the World Cup semifinal under the radar they were in for a rude shock. We’ve sent the chopper up to see how the old enemy are preparing.”
In fairness, this newspaper also used a helicopter to take pictures to see if Australian star Sam Kerr was training. The article itself published seven photos taken of the Lionesses training. Media are allowed some visual access of training, but this was a closed session.
Defending itself, the paper quipped: “It might not be in the spirit of football, but after last month’s men’s Ashes cricket series we will let the moral arbiters England pass judgement on what is and isn’t acceptable in the world of sport.”
We will assume that the article is referring to a sport. It is difficult to know whether this event that they call “cricket” is actually a sport or not. We at the Socratic Daily will investigate and try to ascertain enough information to make a judgement. For now, the “sport” of cricket remains in the same category of games like checkers and rock paper scissors.
The winner of the match between England and Australia will face Spain in the Women’s World Cup final. Who will win this the match between England and Australia? England are the better side, but Australia are riding the wave of being the home nation. It’s anyone’s guess.
