Player Ratings: Newcastle Obliterates Aston Villa

Newcastle began their new season in style. The club will be participating in the Champions League for the first time. Let’s take a look at how their players performed in their 5-1 win over Aston Villa:

Nick Pope: 8: The Newcastle goalkeeper didn’t have much to do, and couldn’t really do much with the one goal he allowed

Sven Botman: 8: Solid the whole match

Fabian Schar: 8.5: Extremely impressive and in control. Blunted Villa attacks

Kieran Trippier: 8: Played well as a fullback. Was not really tested by the Aston Villa attack

Dan Burn: 8: Like Sven Botman, solid the whole match

Bruno Guimares: 8.5: Controlled the game from the center of the part

Joelinton: 7.5: Worked well with his fellow Newcastle midfielders. Like most of Newcastle side, unbothered by Aston Villa

Sandro Tonali: 8.5: Had a great Premier League debut. The Italian opened up the scoring for Newcastle in the 6th minute

Alexander Isak: 9: Scored a brace and was his usual smooth self on the pitch. Wonderful player. Would advise him to go to a better side, but he is already on a Champions League playing team

Anthony Gordon: 7.5: Was fine, but quieter than his fellow attacking players

Miguel Almiron: 8.5: Didn’t score, but the Paraguayan was extremely useful in attacks against the Aston Villa defense

Subs:

Callum Wilson: 9: Came on in the 68th minute and scored less than 10 minutes later

Harvey Barnes: 8.5: Also came on in the 68th minute, and scored a stoppage time goal

Elliot Anderson, Sean Longstaff and Jacob Murphy: NR: All came on in the 85th minute or later
