“America is Back” 50 days into a Presidential term like no other

50 days into Donald Trump’s second, nonconsecutive Presidential term, and the country and the world has seen change, positive and negative, depending on what side of the political aisle you are on, like no other.
Donald Trump’s supporters have largely been thrilled with how the last 7 weeks have gone, particularly with the administration’s work to stop illegal immigration and fight back against DEI initiatives.
Opponents of the President have lamented DOGE’s government cuts and Donald Trump’s tariff threats against other countries. The two sides have such diametrically differing views of the world, that it is almost impossible for them to come to an agreement when assessing any President.
For liberals, Donald Trump’s term marks a frightening return to a belligerant America, supposedly hostile to allies, uncaring for illegal immigrants, and led by a profoundly unqualified man.
For conservatives, it is a chance to dislodge the unelected bureaucrats and powers that be, which care more about spreading social leftism around the globe than the needs and values of everyday Americans. And it is a chance for America to reclaim sovereignty of its borders, and reject the idea that it is a racist, unfair nation.
Unsurprisingly, in an ideologically evenly divided nation, Mr Trump’s ratings so far, are pretty evenly divided. It should be noted that more Americans trust the Trump administration to tell the truth as it is than the mainstream media, and that Trump’s approval ratings are markedly higher now than at the same point in his first term.
But make no mistake, approval for his actions so far is very closely related to political ideology. And the right and left in America live in two very different realities. But what cannot be argued is that Trump is shaking things up like few, if any, Presidents ever have.
For better or for worse, Mr Trump is fundamentally changing America’s relationship with allies and enemies alike. America’s enemies, like Russia, China, Iran and North Korea, like everyone else, have no idea what his next move will be.
Donald Trump, and his Vice President JD Vance, have called out Europe for cracking down on free speech, and for not contributing their fair share to defense. Trump has called out Canada for not spending enough on defense, put on and pulled back tariffs on our northern neighbor, and repeatedly referred to them as our 51st state.
Trump has had disagreements with Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky, and temporarily suspended US aid to Ukraine. The President’s actions have forced Europe to make serious plans to spend more on their military, changed the dynamic of the Russia-Ukraine war, and upended Canadian political discourse.
Whether all, some, or none of these developments, as a result of Trump’s actions, eventually benefit the US, remains to be seen. But it is clear that an era of foreign policy vis a vis the US and our Western allies, is changing, if not completely gone.
Donald Trump has upended the federal bureaucracy, completely stemmed the flow of illegal immigration, changed the narrative on the culture wars into one where the right is on the attack and the left is on the defense, and dislodged the mainstream media as the ultimate arbiter of truth.
Of course, some may argue these are good developments, while others may argue they are bad developments. But what is unarguable, is things have been changing at breakneck pace, both within the US, and in the world in response to US actions. And we have many more twists and terms to come.
Buckle up everyone, we are at the very beginning of Donald Trump’s second Presidential term, a Presidential term, which will see the US host the 2026 World Cup, the 2028 Olympics, and our nation’s 250th birthday. A Presidential term that will be like no other in American history.
