US Backed UN Resolution That Doesn’t Blame Russia For Starting War With Ukraine Is Bargaining Tool To Get Russia To Agree To Peace

Much has been made about the US supporting a resolution at the UN that didn’t blame Moscow for the Ukraine war and called for a swift end to the conflict. The US found itself on the same side as Russia and China on the vote, and against Ukraine and other European allies.

President Trump also said that he was in talks with Russia about an economic-development deal. Trump’s comments, combined with the US’ vote at the UN illustrates a change in approach to the war from the previous administration.

But despite the call from many in Europe and on the American left, this is not a capitulation to Moscow’s desires. The US is on the verge of a mineral deal with Ukraine, whereby Washington will gain access to many Ukrainian resources.

This will guarantee US protection of Ukraine in the future, as they will have a vested interest. It will also be a small pay back for the hundreds of billions of dollars in military aid that the US has given Ukraine. US aid that, without which, Ukraine would have capitulated in 2022, and the entire continent of Europe would be in deep trouble.

Ukraine and Europe owe the US a debt that they can never repay. And Washington will never call on that debt to be repaid fully. Partly because the US is the leader of NATO and the West and partly because the Europeans would never be able to fully repay the US.

Ukraine will be guaranteed US military protection and the US will have gotten something out of it. Additionally, the Trump administration is forcing the Europeans to contribute more to Ukraine’s defense, which they likely will eventually acquiesce to.

The combination of US and added European protection of Ukraine will prevent Moscow from being able to launch an invasion and take Kyiv at a later date. Russian President Vladimir Putin knows this.

President Trump knows that Putin is seeing this happen in real time. Putin will never agree to such an unfavorable deal if he doesn’t get some face saving concessions in return.

The UN resolution that doesn’t blame Russia for starting the war might be one. President Trump speaking more favorably of Putin and Russia in public is likely another (while he speaks to Putin very harshly in private).

While Trump Derangement Syndrome is a real and widespread thing among the European and American liberal establishment, more of their geopolitical analysts should be able to see this.

It is possible that the higher ups in the US and European liberal establishments do see this, but can’t point it out to their rank and file, lest the Russian public gets wind of what is going on and Moscow is forced to renege.

The idea of Trump being a stooge of the Kremlin has long been a liberal fantasy, long after it has been disproven. It was done at first to give the political left a tool to claiming Trump was illegitimate, and has now morphed into the comical belief that Mr Trump is a Russian asset.

The consequent worldview, that Trump was legitimately helped by Moscow to win in 2016, and in return is doing Moscow’s bidding, will be gleefully confirmed by those who have a more visceral hatred for Trump upending the liberal-left institutions that they thought would dominate Western society in perpetuity.

But for those with a touch of nuanced thinking and an ability to keep their hatred of Trump at bay, Trump’s public actions, as a way of giving Moscow a face saving way of accepting a deal that will end the war and be broadly favorable to the US, Ukraine and the rest of the West, are quite intelligent.

Of course, Mr Trump is an erratic man, and what looks like happening might not actually come to pass. In that case, Mr Trump’s words and actions should be condemned. But, assuming we see a deal in roughly the same design as described in this article, President Trump has just produced another stroke of genius on the world stage.
