President Trump Is Ramping Up Deportations
The Trump administration is ramping up arrests of illegal immigrants, government data shows. US Immigration and Customs Enforcement made nearly 1200 arrests on Sunday, and just under 1000 arrests on Saturday.
This is an uptick in numbers from the first few days of Trump’s second administration. Mr. Trump is looking to make progress on his campaign vow to cary out the largest mass deportation in US history, targeting illegal immigrants with criminal backgrounds.
Over the weekend, senior ICE officials told the rank and file that each of the agency’s offices will be responsible for hitting a target of 75 arrests a day. That would translate into 1000-1500 arrests a day across the country.
ICE conducted a large operation in Chicago, where they arrested several dozen illegal immigrants in one day. It broadcast the effort through a video. Many on the left have complained that these actions have “created fear.” But if someone did not illegally come to the United States, there is no reason to be afraid.
Deportations of illegal immigrants are only just beginning. It is very possible that in the next weeks, months and years, we will see a steady and consistent uptick in deportations across the country.
