Donald Trump Wants The Supreme Court To Block His Hush Money Sentencing

President-elect Donald Trump has filed a last-ditch request asking the Supreme Court to block his coming New York sentencing for covering up hush money paid to an adult-film star.

A New York jury convicted Trump of 34 felonies for allegedly falsifying records to cover up hush money he paid to a porn star. This marked a first for a former President being convicted of a crime.

After months of post trial maneuvering, the presiding New York judge said he would sentence the President-elect this Friday. That would mean that Donald Trump would be sentenced 10 days before he is inaugurated as the United States’ 47th President.

At the moment, it looks unlikely that the Supreme Court will step in to block the sentencing. But it is almost certain that Mr. Trump will not be sentenced to any prison time.

Presiding Judge Juan Merchan has all but ruled out sentencing Trump to prison, however, noting Friday his “inclination to not impose any sentence of incarceration” and acknowledging prosecutors have admitted putting Trump in prison would not be “practicable” given his impending presidency.

Merchan said granting Trump an “unconditional discharge” seems to be the most “viable solution,” which means Trump will still be convicted of the crimes, but will not have any penalties levied against him.

Donald Trump and many on the right have long decried these trials as political law fare from the left. And while not every charge against Trump is completely made up, it is undeniable that the left has been attacking Trump through judicial means, and has the power to do it.

But Trump’s decisive 2024 election victory has rendered their attacks on him temporarily ineffective. They will undoubtedly go at Trump from many different angles at some time in his Presidency.

The first couple weeks or months might see the left wing refrain from their attacks on Trump, if only because they know that attacking Trump the moment he steps back into the White House is detrimental to them politically.

Either way, Donald Trump is emboldened, and more experienced than when he first came to the Oval Office 8 years ago. These next 4 years are critical for Trump, for the GOP, and for America. The ball is in Donald Trump’s court. Let’s see what he does.
