The list of notable people calling on Biden to step aside is becoming extensive
From top Democratic operatives, to members of the media, to sitting members of congress; the amount of Democrats calling on Biden to step down from his re-election campaign is growing by the second.
On Sunday Rep. Jerry Nadler, Rep. Mark Takano, Rep. Joe Morelle, and Rep. Adam Smith joined 5 other House Democrats calling on Biden to end his re-election bid. This comes following a media frenzy that has followed Joe Biden following his disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump less than two weeks ago. This list is expected to grow during the week, with many Democrats expressing the sentiment in private that this version of Joe Biden is just not going to beat Donald Trump.
The calls have also come from top Democratic operatives like James Carville and David Axelrod, who were both key figures in their respective election campaigns of Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. Carville Axelrod stated on Sunday that Biden is ‘not winning this race’ following his appearance on ABC with George Stephanopoulos. Carville went so far as to say that people should stop donating to Democratic candidates that support Biden remaining in the race. This isn’t the first time both of these figures called on Biden to re-consider if he’s the best person to beat Donald Trump in this election cycle. Both Axelrod and Carville were sounding the alarm earlier this year on Biden’s re-election hopes, citing his low approval ratings and age issue. Fast forward to today, his approval rating is still dangerously low, and the age issue has only gotten worse due to the bad debate.
Van Jones urged Biden to re-consider his decision to run for re-election. On Sunday Jones stated that he, “can’t find a single person who wants Joe Biden to stay on the ticket. Notable election forecaster Nate Silver has been non-stop posting on X lately that Joe Biden the data and messaging doesn’t add up to a successful re-election bid.
The combination of all of these hasn’t seem to have affected President Biden’s decision to keep running. He remains stubborn and defiant, stating “I’m not going anywhere”.
