Lessons To Learn For Bayern Munich Going Into Next Season
The Bundesliga title race is over. Well, it has been over for almost a month now. Today was more of a representation of how the season has gone for Leverkusen and Bayern. Bayern Munich let a 2 goal lead slip away to Heidenheim. Bayer Leverkusen found a way to win, as usual.
The gap between Leverkusen and Bayern is now 16 points with 6 games left to go. But the permutations of how Bayern could come back ended long ago. It is more a statement of how comprehensively Bayern have fallen. Bayern Munich have won 11 straight Bundesliga titles. That streak will end in a matter of weeks.
It is also a shame for English striker Harry Kane. He is undoubtedly one of the best strikers in the world. But at Tottenham, he just could not win a trophy. The season that he leaves for a trophy-winning side, Bayern, is the season that they do not win a trophy. That is, unless they pull off a miracle and win the Champions League. With Bayern’s form, that is extremely unlikely.
It might be time for a rebuild in Munich. Bayern are a club that expects to dominate the Bundesliga and compete for Champions League titles. With their current form, it is difficult to see that happening. Manchester City are miles ahead of Bayern in quality. Arguably, Liverpool and Arsenal are also better than Bayern.
Real Madrid are already clearly better than Bayern, and continue to buy excellent young talent. And they very well could sign French superstar Kylian Mbappe. Even Barcelona are improving. If Bayern don’t make changes, they could fall even further behind.
The Bundesliga title race is over. Now is the time for Bayern to self reflect and rebuild. They need to make changes now. Bayern have and will always have a proud history. They will always have a very good team. But if they want to stay amongst the very top, now is the time for them to act and change.
