Player Ratings – England Tie Ukraine 1-1
England tied Ukraine 1-1 in what was a disappointing performance for England. They at times struggled to create chances and break through the Ukrainian defense. The subs were also disappointing. Southgate got his tactics wrong today.
Starting 11
Pickford: 5 –Didn’t have much work to do on the night, but did not keep the clean sheet.
Maguire: 6 – Cleared the ball well and had a couple half chances on set pieces.
Guehi: 6 – Did his job in defense.
Walker: 8 – Got his first goal for England and had some good moments in defense including a couple fantastic recoveries on Mudryk.
Chilwell: 6- Defended well and per usual made some good runs down the left. Ultimately the runs down the left did not amount to much.
Rice: 5.5 – Kept possession well, but Lost Zinchenko on the goal.
Bellingham: 6 – Decent dribble in the first half, and had a few good tackles. Surprised to see him subbed off.
Maddison: 5 – Felt as though he was played out of position. Would’ve liked to see him get more involved in the middle.+
Henderson: 5- Decent in possession, but was unable to create any meaningful chances and probably should’ve been subbed off for an attacker.
Saka: 6 – picked up the ball in some dangerous areas in the second half and had a good shot that smacked the post. But also had some bad giveaways.
Kane: 7 – Lovely ball to Kyle Walker on the goal, but didn’t have many opportunities to get on the scoresheet..
SUBS
Rashford: 6 – Won a free kick and then delivered a teasing ball.
Foden: 5 – Was not effective after coming on.
Gallagher: N/A – Not enough involvements.
Southgate: 4 – Subbed off Bellingham instead of Henderson. Couldn’t figure out how to use the pace of his team to their advantage. Lucky to have Walker because Ukraine was dangerous on the counter.
