Democrats are wary of their protests playing into President Trump’s hands

Democratic leaders are sensing political danger. Protests against the Trump administration, which are set to continue this weekend after a week of uprising that spread from Los Angeles across the country, have energized a portion of the left wing base that has been despondent since Trump’s election win last November.

The “No Kings” movement gives the left a chance to seize upon the political movement, in which people on the left are furious with the actions that the Trump administration is taking.

Thousands of people are expected to rally in hundreds of cities across America on Saturday to protest and counter the president’s military parade in Washington, D.C. to mark the Army’s 250th birthday.

The counter-protesters are framing their demonstrations under the slogan “No Kings,” describing it as a “day of defiance” against Trump and his allies while other have been calling for the president to be “dethroned.”

But while this is a much needed energy boost for the political left, many in the Democratic Party are worried that seeing masses of people causing disturbances and protesting against patriotic imagery will make Americans turn against the left.

As we have seen with the anti-ICE riots in LA, the spectacle the left wing movement puts on in these protests often is dominated by masked people destroying property, attacking police officers, waving foreign flags, and burning the American flag.

The left is in danger of their movement being seen as violent, destructive, and anti American. Of course, the left has always harbored this energy and these sentiments, but for a while they have been good at hiding them, behind personally agreeable Democratic candidates who gave the generally pro-American platitudes to be palatable to the American public.

They also had a compliant media that would prevent the public from seeing the extremism of the left. But in the age of social media, and with the energy of the left wing coming from its more militant faction, it’s more difficult for the left to disguise.

For these reasons, while still encouraging, and often funding, these protests, the left is trying to give organized directives to appear to be pro-American. An example of this includes the directive to not wave Mexican flags, and bring American flags.

Of course, these people largely do not believe the US is a great country, they just want to have the optics of being pro American. But regardless, it seems like the country as a whole is done with mass protests/riots. At least, they are done being swayed in the favor of the people who do the protests/riots. It seems like the riots of 2020 were the final straw.
