Trump Campaign disavows joke at MSG Rally – ‘Does not reflect the view of President Trump’

The Trump Campaign is looking to distance itself from a joke made at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally by Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe where he referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage.”

In a statement from the Trump Senior Advisor Danielle Alvarez, she stated, “This joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign.” The Trump campaign also confirmed that the jokes Hinchcliffe told during the MSG rally were not vetted by the campaign prior.

Despite the joke receiving little to no laughter from the Pro-Trump MSG crowd, Democrats quickly sounded off on the joke. In a post on X, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez encouraged Puerto Ricans to send the video all their family members, “I need every Boricua on here to take that rally clip and drop it in your family WhatsApps and group chats.”

Hinchcliffe, who hosts the popular comedy show, “Kill Tony” quickly responded to the backlash by stating, “These people have no sense of humor. Wild that a vice presidential candidate would take time out of his “busy schedule” to analyze a joke taken out of context to make it seem racist. I love Puerto Rico and vacation there. I made fun of everyone…watch the whole set.”

5.8 Million Hispanics of Puerto Rican origin live in the United States, and while the effect of such a joke is still unknown, it could rally some to vote against Donald Trump.
