New Poll: Trump within striking distance in New York

A new poll from Siena College shows Donald Trump within 8 points of Joe Biden in the State of New York, a state that Biden won by 23 points in the 2020 election. The poll surveyed 805 registered voters in New York.

The increased support for Donald Trump looks to be driven by the African American vote. The poll shows 29% support support for Trump among the Black population in the state. For contrast, Trump only won 8% of the black vote nationwide in the 2020 election.

The increase in support could be due to Trump’s notable outreach to the inner-city community during his campaign. Trump recently held a rally in The Bronx, drawing thousands of members of the community to watch him speak.

Joe Biden on the other hand has been hemorrhaging support within the black community this cycle. Harry Enten, senior data reporter for CNN recently examined the support among the black community, stating that he had ‘Never seen anything like this’. Biden will need to win this key demographic in order to have any shot at winning the upcoming election.
