Is There Any Chance Kylian Mbappe Doesn’t Go To Real Madrid?
Is there any chance that Kylian Mbappe doesn’t go to Real Madrid? After making official Friday that he was leaving PSG, Kylian Mbappe is now free to choose the next team he wants to be on. While some speculate that the Frenchman could go to Liverpool, or even the Saudi league, Real Madrid are firm favorites to land Mbappe.
Real Madrid have been courting Kylian Mbappe for a long time. In fact, there have been many times when it looked like Kylian Mbappe had already made a deal to go to the Spanish capital. Each time in the past, these deals fell through. Not least because French President Emmanuel Macron intervened to get Mbappe to stay in Paris.
PSG has long dominated the French league, but the Champions League has always alluded them. To have a Frenchman, a World Cup hero for France, and possibly the best player in the world in Mbappe lead PSG to the promised land seemed like the inevitable fairytale. It had to happen.
But alas, it didn’t. The closest PSG ever came was the final during the 2019-20 season, where they lost to Bayern Munich. Since then, there have been near misses (2021 semifinals, 2024 semifinals) and failed hopes of Lionel Messi leading PSG to the title.
This always looked like Kylian Mbappe’s final season at PSG. He had put off Real Madrid and better leagues to finally give PSG the Champions League title they had always wanted. Facing Borussia Dortmund, a good side, but very beatable, looked like the golden opportunity to make another final. But PSG’s loss over two legs looks to have been their last chance to win.
PSG, a team that in recent years has had Neymar, Messi and Mbappe, will begin next season with none of them. As for Kylian Mbappe, all signs seem to be pointing towards Madrid. He is not going to Germany or Italy. In Europe, that leaves only the Premier League and La Liga.
There’s not enough room or financial fair play left on Manchester City. Manchester United and Chelsea are not good enough for Mbappe to want to go there. While Arsenal are, there looks to be no indication that they are in the running. Liverpool seems the only possible English destination for Mbappe. While some have suggested that Mbappe go to Saudi Arabia for a season, cash in, and go back to Europe before the 2026 World Cup, that doesn’t seem likely.
In fact, famed football transfer expert Fabricio Romano has indicated that Mbappe to Madrid is all but a foregone conclusion. Is there any chance that Kylian Mbappe doesn’t go to Real Madrid? As of now, the answer is “probably not.”
