As Ratings On The Economy Remain Low, A Notable Slogan Goes Missing
The Biden campaign has seemingly scratched the use of the term ‘Bidenomics,’ just six months out from the general election. In 2023, Joe Biden was hosting campaign events with massive letters in the background using the slogan.
At the time, inflation looked to be slowing, job growth was steady, and there was talk around Washington that a “soft landing” by the Fed may actually be possible. Fast forward to today, and things are not looking bright. Inflation went up in the month of April, the jobs report came in cooler than expected, and the Federal Reserve is yet to raise interest rates.
According to a new Gallup Poll, only 38% of Americans say they trust Biden to steer the economy in the right direction. A stark contrast to Donald Trump’s 46% rating in that same poll. Billionaire hedge-fund manager Stanley Druckenmiller recently voiced his displeasure at Biden’s economic policies, stating “Bidenomics, if I was a professor, I’d give him an ‘F’”.
One quick look at Joe Biden’s campaign website and you can’t find a single mention of ‘Bidenomics’. In fact, when you click on “Joe’s Vision” it gives you an error message, and then asks if you want to donate to his campaign. It seems like mention of the term is now blacklisted.
For many, ‘Bidenomics’ has now turned into an insult against President Biden, with many mocking the President for his use of the slogan. There’s even a website named after the slogan (Bidenomics.com), dedicated to the failures of the Biden economy.
Poll after poll show that the economy is top of mind for voters going into the 2024 election. But President Biden’s historically low ratings on the economy don’t seem to be altering his view that the economy is thriving. In an interview with CNN that aired on Monday, Biden seemingly became defensive when confronted with the fact that the consensus across polls show that voters favor Trump’s handling of the economy over his.
“The poling data has been wrong all along…we’ve already turned it around” said Biden. This angered even the staunchest allies of the Democratic Party. David Axelrod, who was the architect of the Obama re-election campaign, stated “Why not lead with empathy? I think he’s making a terrible mistake. If he doesn’t win this race, it may not be Donald Trump that beats him, it may be his own pride.” This isn’t the first time Axelrod has sounded the alarm on the Biden re-election bid. Back in November Axelrod floated the idea of replacing Biden at the top of the ticket with someone else.
Biden is losing his window of changing the minds of Americans on his economic performance. The election is only 6 months away, and the polling data shows Trump beating him in every swing state. The clock is ticking. Can Joe get it done? Only time will tell, but things certainly aren’t trending in the right direction.
