The “Pro Democracy Party” (In name only)
“Democracy is on the ballot in November” has become one of the rallying cries of the Democratic party ahead of the 2024 election. It could not be more true. But not for the reason Democrats are claiming. Democracy is on the ballot, but strengthening it would require Democrats to lose, not win.
The Democratic party has undergone, and is currently undergoing, one of the biggest undermining’s of democracy in the history of the country. People seem to be ignoring it. To start off, the DNC effectively set up their primaries so that challengers in the Democratic Primary didn’t have a shot at even challenging for the nomination, let alone winning it.
They completely blew off the traditional first in the country primary of New Hampshire and moved their first primary to South Carolina, a state that was key to Biden’s nomination in 2020 and was always going to show strong support for the President. They cancelled the primary in Florida after Florida Democrats only submitted Joe Biden’s name to the Secretary of State, angering challengers like Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson. State law in Florida allows the cancellation of a primary if a candidate is running unopposed, and hands them all 224 of their delegates.
Democrats are now attempting to knock off all third party candidates. The DNC has hired Lis Smith, a Democratic operative tasked with knocking off 3rd party challengers such as RFK Jr, Jill Stein, and Cornel West. What’s so telling is that they’re not even hiding their plans.
DNC Spokesman Matt Corridoni told NBC news last month, “We’re facing an unprecedented election and we know the GOP is already working to prop up third-party candidates like Robert Kennedy Jr. to make them stalking horses for Donald Trump….with so much on the line, we’re not taking anything for granted. We’re going to make sure voters are educated and we’re going to make sure all candidates are playing by the rules.” This is pure projection by the DNC, as they have never played by the rules.
The DNC was forced to pay a fine to the FEC for not properly disclosing the money they spent on opposition research that led to the now-debunked Steele Dossier, which accused Trump as having some sort of secret collaboration with Russia. Were they playing by the rules then? Of course not.
The Democrats evidently see RFK Jr. as the biggest threat out of all the third party challengers. So much so, that they’ve already filed complaints against him with the FEC, accusing him of illegally coordinating with an outside group to gather the required signatures needed to appear on a ballot. In the announcement of the filing, DNC legal counsel Bob Lenhard stated that the Kennedy campaign is “in the process of accepting a $15 million unlawful in-kind contribution by coordinating their efforts to get him on the ballot.”
They’ve also deployed members of congress to discourage people from running. Ro Khanna sent a letter to RFK Jr’s running mate Nicole Shanahan urging her to step aside because it could aid Trump’s return to the white house.
Does attempting to knock off challengers sound like a party that wants a flourishing democracy? Absolutely not. RFK Jr. has every right to be on the ballot, if his campaign meets the requirements. This isn’t Maoist China, Nazi Germany, or Putin’s Russia. America cannot go down this path.
