Phil Foden stars as usual for Manchester City with a hat-trick against Aston Villa. The 23-year old English superstar helped Manchester City keep pace in the title race with Arsenal and Liverpool. City dominated possession and took an 11th minute lead through a goal from Rodri.
Aston Villa equalized with a nicely finished goal from Jhon Duran in the 20th minute. Without Erling Harland in the match, Phil Foden assumed his natural role as star of the team. His first goal was a superb free kick just before halftime. He scored his second goal in the 62nd minute off a pass from Rodri.
Foden completed his hat-trick in the 69th minute with an absolute rocket of a shot into the top corner from 25 yards. It was his 21st goal for City across all competitions this season. Incredible stuff from a lad who plays in the midfield. He has quite likely put himself in Balon d’Or contention.
This comes after Foden’s winner against Bournemouth in late February. Many would argue that Phil Foden is the reason why City are still in the title race. As a player who can score, dribble and pass, Foden has very few peers at his talent level. He is essential for Manchester City and should be essential for the English national team if they are serious about winning anything at the international level.
