New Poll: Trump Leads Biden Among Young People In Crucial Swing State
A new poll administered by Marist College shows Donald Trump with a 4 point lead against Joe Biden in the Peach State, a state that Biden won narrowly in 2020. The poll surveyed 1,177 registered voters between the dates of March 11th-March 14th and had a margin of error of 3.7 percentage points.
Perhaps the most eye opening figure in the poll is that Trump leads Biden by 5 points in the key demographic of 18-29 year old’s. Biden won that demographic comfortably in 2020 by 13 points, and will need to win it again with similar margins in order to increase his chances of winning the general election.
The poll follows a similar trend nationwide that shows young people becoming increasingly disillusioned by the Biden Administration, despite a larger share of 18-29 year old’s identifying as Democrat compared to Republican. Since Biden took office, rent is higher, groceries are higher, and many young people view their economic future as gloomy. The most recent fork in the road for Biden in this demographic comes from the Israel-Hamas war, where polling data shows that 18-29 year old’s tend to support the Palestinian cause over the Israeli. The majority of the people attending pro-Palestine protests are young, and they don’t seem happy with Biden’s support of Israel.
Trump has steadily gained ground among the young electorate, and it’s not difficult to see why. He’s charismatic, he’s funny, and he understands the culture far better than Biden does. He also represents a return to a pre-Biden world which had less people struggling with their mental health, less inflation, and less foreign conflict.
So will Biden turn this around? It’s tough to know, but with less than 8 months to go until the election, the clock is ticking.
