Sen. Lankford: ‘Elon Musk Needs to Focus on Tesla Recalls, Not Border’
Primary negotiator of the bipartisan border deal, Senator James Lankford (R) of Oklahoma has sounded off on Elon Musk’s criticism of the bill.
In an appearance on CNN with Jake Tapper, when probed about Elon’s X post stating that the bill, “will do the total opposite of securing the border.” Lankford levied his own response by hitting back on a recent Tesla controversy, “I think he needs to go back to doing the 2 million tesla’s that are currently being recalled.”
The Tesla recall isn’t related to anything mechanical surrounding the car, just an issue with an incorrect font size displayed on the instrument panel.
That won’t stop politicians from using it as an attack on his increased outspokenness in recent weeks on the border crisis. Elon visited the border back in September of 2023 and has suggested that the Biden Administration is deliberately leaving the border wide open in order to attract future democratic party voters.
The Senate is expected to vote on this new border proposal on Wednesday. As of right now, there aren’t enough Senators on board to meet the 60 vote threshold needed to pass the bill in the Senate. At least 21 Republican Senators have pledged to vote against the bill.
