Detroit Pistons Lose Their 26th Straight Game
The Detroit Pistons lost their 26th straight game on Saturday. Their 26th straight loss ties the league record for the longest losing streak in a single season. The Pistons have now gone from 2-1 to 2-27. They join the 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers and 2013-14 Philadelphia 76ers as the only 2-27 teams in NBA history.
The Pistons lost this game to the Brooklyn Nets in Brooklyn, and will play them again, this time in Detroit, on Tuesday, December 26th. They are approaching the ignominious record losing streak set by the 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers and 2013-14 Philadelphia 76ers.
“Everybody wants to win, everybody hates losing, so it’s hard,” guard Cade Cunningham said. The Pistons were within two midway through the third quarter. But a quick seven straight points by the Nets pushed the lead back to nine. It was still just 88-82 with under three minutes remaining. But Royce O’Neale made a 3-pointer and Day’Ron Sharpe followed with consecutive baskets to trigger a 10-0 finish to the period that made it 98-82.
The Pistons’ average age is slightly under 25 years old, one of the youngest in the NBA. If the Pistons lose 3 more games, their 29 game losing streak would be the longest in the history of the 4 major American sports. Only time will tell if the Pistons will set this ignominious record.
One thing is sure though. No one on the Detroit Pistons wants to go down in history as being on the team with the longest losing streak in the history of American professional sports.
