TNF Grades: How did The 49ers do on Offense and Defense?
The San Francisco 49ers defeated the New York Giants 30-12 in their home opener on Thursday Night Football to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Offense: B
Purdy threw for two touchdowns and 310 yards. At times, the offense had trouble converting on third down at times with Aiyuk out and struggled to get it going downfield. However, Deebo was active and continued his good early season form scoring a TD on a beautiful back shoulder throw by Purdy. McAffrey and Mitchell had a decent night on the ground adding the bulk of the 49ers 141 yards rushing. Let’s also not forget Ronnie Bell, first NFL catch was a TOUCHDOWN. Overall the offense had a pretty pedestrian game, but with an opponent like the Giants, it was more than enough.
Defense: A-
Great performance from the NFL’s best defense. Although they weren’t heavy in the sack department, only picking up two, they managed to pressure Daniel Jones through 4 quarters. They also did a good job of defending the run and didn’t allow the Giants wide receivers to get open. Hufanga also had a late interception off a tipped pass.
Special Teams: B-
Moody went 3/3 on Field Goals. Wishnowsky placed some good punts, and Ray Ray McCloud didn’t have any meaningful returns.
