Player Ratings – Newcastle vs Man City

Newcastle fell 1-0 to Manchester City in what was an entertaining back and forth game. City were the better side, but Newcastle did have their moments and should’ve done more to threaten Ederson’s goal.

Starting 11

Pope: 6 – Probably could’ve done better on the first goal but had great kick save on Haaland.

Burn: 6.5- Had some good tackles but his pace let him down at times.

Botman: 8 – A masterclass in positioning, and so calm in possession.

Trippier: 7.5- Did well on the right cutting off passes and defending Grealish.

Schar: 8 – Did a stellar job marking Halland. He had a fantastic tackle to prevent a sure goal.

Joelinton: 4- Allowed too many passes in between the lines to Foden, and was forced to come off early due to injury.

Guimaraes: 4 allowed Foden to play in between the lines in the midfield, and had a shocking scoff attempt at goal.

Tonali: 5 – picked up a soft yellow, he was effective in possession but wasn’t in cutting off the channels.

Gordon: 6 – Was having a good duel with kyle walker on that left side but was forced to come off early due to threat of getting a second yellow.

Isak: 3.5 – Barely saw a touch of the ball

Almiron: 5 – End product was not there and found himself isolated on the wing a lot. However, he did have some threatening combinations with Trippier that should’ve resulted in more.

SUBS

Longstaff: 5 – Decent in possession but didn’t make a difference going forward.

Barnes: 4.5 – Immediately picked up a yellow when he came on, and there on didn’t offer much. Had a shot on goal that was easily saved by Ederson.

Wilson: 4 – Like Isak, didn’t see much of the ball when he came on

Anderson: 4 – No meaningful involvements.

Livramento: N/A – Small cameo.
