Player Ratings – Newcastle vs Liverpool

Newcastle United fell to Liverpool at St. James Park in what was a performance to forget. Things were on the up and up after the Gordon goal and the Van Dijk red card, but Newcastle were unable to finish off the game. Two mistakes costed them two Darwin Nunez goals and Liverpool stole the three points.

Pope: 5 – Unlucky to give up two goals.

Trippier: 6 – Good crosses and decent defending.

Schar: 6: Didn’t have much work to do on the night.

Botman: 4 – Misread the ball on the Nunez goal and it was costly.

Burn: 4 – He was good in possession, but hesitated on the second Nunez goal and that was all she wrote.

Tonali: 7 – Great work rate on the day, and had a splendid dribble. Shouldn’t have been subbed off.

Guimares: 4 – Shocking in possession on the second goal. He also made some bad decisions.

Joelinton: 6 – Was actually decent in possession and had some good tackles. U

Almiron: 6.5 –Unlucky not to score on two occasions. Alisson on the first, woodwork on the second.

Isak: 5 – The life of a striker. Saw very little of the ball.

Gordon: 8 – Tormented TAA all game with his dribbling. Got his goal. Shouldn’t have been subbed off.

Barnes: 3 – Sunday League type performance. He could’ve easily slotted Wilson for a goal but he forgot how to play football.

Wilson: 5 – The effort was there, product was not.

Longstaff: 4 –Was not effective after coming on.

Andersson: N/A – Not enough involvements.

Targett: N/A – Not enough involvements.

Manager: 2 – Tactical Disasterclass. What was Eddie Howe thinking with those subs?
