Lane Kiffin SOUNDS OFF on lack of Minority Coaches

Lane Kiffin has made his voice heard on the lack of minority coaches in the SEC and BIG 12 conferences.

Lane Kiffin’s premise is that more minority/black coaches is by definition better. If Lane Kiffin is coming from the position of wanting more opportunity for minority coaches, then he is absolutely correct. If he is just looking to fill a quota, this is not a recipe for advancement of a merit based society, or the betterment of opportunities of minorities. Taking the position that have more of one race is better is itself racial prejudiced.

84% of SEC signees are black. There is never any outcry when the proportion of black players is higher than the black population. There is no problem having more minority coaches and creating more opportunities for them, but we should not make specific racial quotas as a means for more opportunity.

Policies like the NFL’s giving free draft picks to teams that sign minority coaches are counterproductive to creating a situation where all people are given the same opportunity and are hired on their merits.
