USA Humiliates Mexico in CONCACAF Nations League, Mexico Resorts To Dirty Fouls And Chants
The United States humiliated Mexico tonight in the CONCACAF Nations League, 3-0. Mexico was honestly lucky that the US didn’t win 6-0. The US outclassed Mexico on every part of the pitch and at times toyed with Mexico. Mexico then resorted to dirty tackles and chants.
Sadly, the horrendous referee gave Weston McKennie a red card for defending himself after having his jersey ripped apart by a Mexican player, and objects thrown at him by Mexican “fans.” It almost seemed like the ref knew he had to give a red card to McKennie to keep the US from scoring 7 on Mexico.
As the match progressed, Mexico looked more and more like a team that had never seen a soccer ball before. They started to violently tackle American players. They instigated fights. And somehow, Sergino Dest giving a little back also resulted in him getting a red card.
As it stands, McKennie and Dest are set to miss the CONCACAF Nations League final against America junior, known by some as Canada. If CONCACAF had a shred of integrity, both Dest and McKennie’s red cards would be rescinded. But this being CONCACAF, don’t bet on it.
In addition to Mexico’s horrendous and dirty play on the field, the match was marred by their fans off it. Near the end of the game, Mexico’s infamous chant was heard around the stadium. It is a word that is interpreted as derogatory toward the LGBT community. It honestly seemed like the Mexico fans were chanting it just to get the game to end early, sparing their sad team of further humiliation.
This is all made more humiliating for Mexico by the fact that soccer is the 4th or 5th most popular sport in the United States, while it is the most popular sport in Mexico. To give an idea about how soccer is the only thing Mexico even at one time had over the US, in the most recent Olympics, the US won 39 gold medals, while Mexico won 0. The United States has won the Summer Olympic medal table 18 times. The US is considered the greatest sports nation in the world. Mexico well..isn’t.
Mexico was so horrendous in the game, that the 3-0 loss flattered them. While the US humiliated the hapless Mexicans, it wasn’t all rosy for US Soccer. The shocking and disgraceful news that Gregg Berhalter would be likely rehired, marred the match. It seems that US Soccer doesn’t care to be a serious organization that wants to win.
The news is so unbelievable that many thought it was a practical joke. But alas, it looks to be real, and we will have to deal with this saddening news after our match with America junior. Hopefully we can beat them, even being short handed, to mitigate the pain.
But honestly, the US has bigger fish to fry. Canada, and certainly Mexico, are not serious teams. They are afterthoughts. As I have said before, it is time for US Soccer to adopt the American Hegemon Mentality. Expect greatness. Do not be happy with mediocrity.
