Tennis GOAT Novak Djokovic Wins 23rd Grand Slam Title

Novak Djokovic won the French Open today, his 23rd Grand Slam win. Considering that Djokovic wasn’t able to compete at the 2022 Australian Open because of vaccination mandates, was questionably disqualified from the 2020 US Open when a ball he hit struck a line judge, and the 2020 Wimbledon tournament was cancelled at the peak of Djokovic’s powers, Djokovic could already have more than 25 Grand Slam titles.

23 is already a record on the men’s side, but Djokovic is arguably unlucky to not have more. It is difficult to argue against him being the greatest tennis player of all time. While Roger Federer at his best was the most graceful, artistic player ever, Djokovic at his best is simply unbeatable.

When Novak Djokovic is at his best, one must hit about 5 winners to win a single point against him. He is supremely fit, almost a machine. He is the best there is, both physically and mentally. How to beat Djokovic in a best of 5 set match? Hope he isn’t at the top of his game.

Djokovic today made quick work of his Norwegian opponent Casper Ruud. He won in 3 sets, beating Ruud 7-6, 6-3, 7-5. The 24 year old Ruud is a fantastic player, but he really never stood a chance against Novak. The fact that Novak at age 36 seems as unbeatable as ever, winning both of the 2 Slams so far this year, simply adds to his greatness.

It really cannot be understated how magnificent a tennis player Novak Djokovic is. He continues to defy what we think is possible in tennis. And the amount of Grand Slam wins he has arguably understates how great a player he is. I have long been a Roger Federer fan, and it took me a while to accept that Djokovic, not Federer, was the greatest tennis player of all time. But I now accept it, and want to simply celebrate Novak Djokovic’s greatness.

Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are the 3 greatest tennis players of all time. They all should be celebrated, and we should feel fortunate to have been able to see them play at the same time. Roger Federer will always be my favorite player, but let’s all take time to celebrate and acknowledge tennis’ GOAT, Novak Djokovic.
